A poignant memorial event was held on October 7th, 2024 in the central public square known as Platz der Alten Synagoge, in the city of Freiburg, Germany. Organized by a coalition of local Jewish communities, anti-Semitism associations, Israeli pro-democracy activists, and the Freiburg-Tel Aviv sister city partnership, the event commemorated the victims of October 7th 2023, the missing hostages, and the ongoing price of the  Israel-Gaza conflict. 

Despite challenging weather, the organizers created a meaningful and impactful experience. Hundreds of participants attended, enjoying musical performances, speeches, and a digital version of the Hatikva exhibit. The event received strong support from the local community, including the Mayor of Freiburg. 

This commemoration underscored the importance of intercultural dialogue and understanding in promoting peace and reconciliation.
